Filling in Time

Filling in Time

Ken Shiovitz

January, 2004

He began at the end, in the lower right corner, with a five letter word for origin,

Wrote in pen, as he had for the last 80 years, filled letters in neat little boxes,

In neat little clusters,

Solved the same clues that had always worked before, unlocked

The hidden theme of the puzzle before it was half complete,

Raced toward the beginning, where he would be finished,

No longer able to pick up a pen or decode a clue, to reflect

On hidden messages,

For he was waiting to die in the only way he knew how to live,

One puzzle at a time.
