Falling Leaf

Falling Leaf

A

leaf

releases its twig-hold

falls spinning around its spine

indirectly to the ground

where heaps of fanlet kin

softly weave the new arrival

into the top-skin of a feathery pile

bright yellow and waxy

that melts from below

translucent nets of veins

then into flakes

that worm-fed

form the loam

of yesterday’s

pride….and

tomorrow’s

rebirth.
